I know that it isn't hot off the press, but we both love this trend and it does not seem to be going anywhere any time soon. With endless designs of chokers, medallion and name necklaces, body chains, lariat necklaces...the options available are endless which makes it super easy to personalize your own signature look.
If you haven't tried layering chains before, give it a go because just a few key pieces can amp up the most simple outfit. Start by going through your jewelry box to see if you already have any pieces that you can use. An old necklace can be revitalized by removing any pendants or charms that may be out of style, you can also have a jeweler adjust the length if needed. Even a plain chain will add depth to the layers and maybe some sentimental value to your new look!
Okay so this is probably going to be the best tip I can give you when shopping for your new pieces. Ready? Whether you are all about the gold or dig bright silver like me, always buy the real stuff! Plated jewelry will often tarnish, despite if it is nickle-free, blah blah blah...whatever the salesperson might say. Invest in 14k gold or 925 sterling silver so you can wear your chains forever and wherever! Have you seen how cute they look with a bather? You don't want your ultra cool new choker turning your neck green after a dip in the ocean, trust me from experience. Where can you find these mermaid worthy goodies? I listed all of my fave online shops for you babes x Keep scrolling!
HOW TO LAYER
I know it sounds pretty simple, but there is an art to it. If you just throw on a bunch of necklaces, you will probably result with some major gypsy vibes and a load of tangled chains that will surely turn you away from this look. Try to have a variety of lengths and weights. A choker and a couple of 14-18" pieces are a good start for everyday wear, such as a basic tee and jeans. If you are going to be rocking deep v's, plunging necklines or planning to wear them with a bather, go for longer pieces (20-24") and even body chains!
Right now my little collection has grown to about ten different length and style chains. I mix and match all of them depending on my outfit or the look I want to create. I feel like personally, I gravitate to dainty, silver pieces and will often wear several layers. You can also create a more subtle look, just like the photo above (bottom right), Meg R rocks two simple gold chains with her white tee. This trend can be completely tailored to suit your everyday style and budget! As promised, below are my current favourite online shops to find good quality and stylish designs.
