Something Meg and I both strive for when recommending products, remedies, or tutorials to our readers is to keep things au naturel. We love real ingredients, effortless style, and low maintenance routines. That being said, skincare is an area where we value this the most; a routine with natural products that creates a glowing complexion means makeup application can be kept minimal (if that's what you're into). It's so so so important to be putting the right ingredients on your face and skip the nasty chems when you can. Think of it like healthy eating, if you can't pronounce something in the ingredients, maybe don't put it on your skin.
Enter: 8 Faces Beauty and their Boundless Solid Oil. Yes, it's 100% natural and certified organic, but it's so much more than that. Keeping with the low maintenance, all-natural theme, the Boundless Solid Oil is one of those versatile products that is key to have in your arsenal. It has reparative properties from having a high concentration of Vitamin C thanks to the Amla Berry--which boosts collagen (yes pls)--and brightens skin due to the powerful antioxidants. (You may have heard about the seemingly endless benefits of the Amla Berry, which is often referred to as the Indian Gooseberry.) It makes for the perfect, everyday moisturizer if your skin is on the dryer side. For my fellow slick-skinned babes out there, I use this product as an after-sun product instead, to help maintain a healthy glow on my face. I was skeptical using an oil on my face because I've been "blessed" with some extra natural highlighter, but I found the Boundless Solid Oil actually soaks into my skin better and faster than some of my favourite moisturizers. You can literally feel all the goodness soaking into your skin! Your face will thank you, I promise.
But, as previously mentioned, the Boundless Solid Oil is versatile and uncomplicated, if you head to www.8facebeauty.com you can find eight different ways to use it. Yep, EIGHT! Talk about bang for your buck. Also, we're obsessed with their insta (#aestheticgoals) so definitely give them a follow: @8facebeauty. Thanks for reading!

Okay, we know how this sounds...we don't need any more beauty routines to add to our mornings and nights. However, we wanted to share the products we've been loving and using recently! Both of us have noticed a change in the length, strength, and volume of our lashes and had to share. We hope this is helpful, and be sure to let us know if there's any miracle products you love using on your lashes. We'd love to know!
Step 1: Eye makeup removal
You've heard it before, and you'll hear it again: coconut oil. I've always been skeptical about using coconut oil because, although there's so much hype around it, I wasn't entirely sure how to use it on my face. Basically, because a) my face has enough oil on it already, and b) rubbing oil on my eyes seemed unnatural. I always asked myself: do you put it on a cotton swab? A cotton makeup pad? Did I have to melt it beforehand? Clearly I'm an over-thinker. However, what I normally do is scoop about a dime-sized amount with my fingers and massage it until it's soften or completely melted into a liquid form. Then I go straight in with my (clean) fingers and massage it into my lashes, gently rubbing off my eye liner and mascara. It might look strange because the oil will start to turn black, but this is a good sign! Once you feel your bare lashes, rinse off with warm water. I've seen many benefits from using coconut oil as my makeup remover; massaging the oil into the lashes has actually made them grow longer and more luscious, making them healthier so mascara application is a breeze. Also a huge win: it doesn't irritate my eyes! OH, and one jar has lasted me roughly 8 months - AKA way longer than a pack of makeup wipes.
Step 2: Miracle mascaras
My ride or die mascara's are Benefit's They're Real and Smashbox's Full Exposure. Both on the pricey-side (around $30 CAD each), but totally worth it. These bad boys seem to last me a million years, so you get what you pay for. I use They're Real for everyday and going out because it works perfectly with just a few coats, or if you want a more dramatic look you can layer on more coats for that false-lashes-look. It's a very versatile mascara which is what you want in a more expensive product. This mascara will change your life, I promise. Then I use Full Exposure for an everyday look or those days when I'm feeling the no-makeup-makeup-look. Its big fluffy brush makes for uh-mazing feathery lashes that look natural and full. I've also recently been playing around with how I apply my mascara...You could say I have some free time on my hands. I find that gently lifting my eyelid and focusing the product on the base of my lashes makes them stand up the most so they look long 'n strong. I used to do the 'blinking thing': blinking down as I brush the mascara upwards, essentially using my eyelid as a backboard (and having to use a Q-Tip to clean it up after). I've found this new method to allow me to separate my lashes more effectively and makes them look more voluminous. Hopefully that made any sense (let us know if you guys want to see a quick vid of this!?!?!).
Step 3: Night time Care
Believe it or not, it actually pays off to take care of your lashes over night! We both LOVE Saje's Herbal Balm Lash & Nail Salve. Once you take off your eye makeup, gather a little bit on your (clean) finger tips and gently massage until each lash is coated. After a few weeks, you'll notice a difference. Not necessarily with length, but fullness and volume. We've both gotten compliments on the lusciousness of our naked lashes after a few weeks of using this product!
Well, that's all she wrote. We love hearing your feedback on our blogs so if you try one of the above products, be sure to slide into our DMs and let us know! Stay beautiful.
Hey babes! So in the last few months I have been really happy with my skin for the first time EVER. There have been a few changes in my lifestyle but I believe the biggest difference has been made by my skin routine. I've experimented with a lot of different products so believe me when I say these are tried and true. With that being said, the products I recommend work for my skin, but may not be right everyone. So before you go and drop $300 at Kielhl's, shoot me a DM or talk to one of the lovely ladies that work in-store! Now that we got all that covered, let me share all my beauty secrets with you xxoxo
Okay so, I'll start by give you guys the rundown of my routine at night and in the morning, and try to squeeze in some tips!
At the end of the day, your skin has produced oils, sweat; endured dust and dirt - you name it. Whether you wear makeup or not, your skin needs to be cleansed before bed. I know a lot of girls that sleep with their makeup on(I just cringed), this is NOT cool. Doesn't matter if your foundation is made of gold, you need to wash it off so that your skin can breath and repair itself while you sleep. Step 1: Cleanse. Starting with a pea-size amount of Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser, I rub the product in circular motions all over my face and then massage it with a silicone cleansing pad (like this one). If I've been wearing a lot of makeup that particular day, I will then run a cotton pad doused in micellar water all over my face to remove any remaining nasty that I can't see. Step 2: Moisturize. I warm 4 drops of Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate between my hands and smooth it onto my freshly cleansed face, followed immediately by a dime-sized amount of Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream.
Pretttttty simple and since I've been sticking to this routine for so long now, it's honestly habit and I can't sleep without doing it. Before I move on to the A.M. part, I'll just explain why I use the Ultra Facial Oil-Free line at Kiehl's. I went from Summer in Canada to Summer in Australia, and I find that the lighter weight formula is better for my skin when it's exposed to hot weather and producing so many natural oils on it's own. In the Winter(whatever that is) I use the regular Ultra Facial line because it's richer and prevents my skin from drying out.
TIP 2-3 times a week, in between step 1 & 2, I use Kiehl's Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Mask.
After my beauty sleep...kidding, I mean after I hit snooze 7 times and finally roll out of bed, I rinse my face with cool water. Since I cleanse at night, a simple rinse is enough. If my skin is appearing tired, I'll spritz rose water(replaces a toner) before applying my moisturizer. Step 1: Moisturize. Just like the evening drill - I warm 4 drops of Kiehl's Daily Reviving Concentrate between my hands and again follow with Kiehl's Ultra Facial Oil-Free Gel Cream, but slightly less than I use at night. Step 2: Protect + Correct. Just like the bottle says, BaliBody BB Cream is just the right amount coverage to correct any uneven skin discolouration, and enough sun protection for daily exposure. I squeeze a pea-sized amount onto my fingertips and blend evenly over my face and down my neck. Step 3: Lips. If you know me, you've heard of my lip balm obsession and know that I will NEVER be without one in tote. I'm super picky with the texture and obv, the benefits of my lip balm. One of my TOP faves is Kiehl's #1 Lip Balm in mint. I apply it after brushing my teeth, and it leaves my lips feeling soft and prepped. TIP If nude lipstick is your jam too, you will love how smooth and velvety your lippy will look over-top this lip balm.
TIP You should exfoliate your face 2-3 times a week. After I exfoliate, I like to use Kiehl's Hydro-Plumping Serum. I cannot stress how plump and moisturized my skin feels after using this miracle potion, it's amazing and if you buy just one product after reading this blog I hope it's this one! #noregrets
Body: The rest of your body needs proper skincare just as much as your face does. Exfoliating dead skin cells at least once a week is key, as well as moisturizing daily. Being in the sun so often, I also need to think about my skin while tanning. BaliBody Tanning Oil keeps my skin feeling hydrated in the heat while giving me the deep bronze tan that I desire. TIP When I go out, I run a small amount of tanning oil over my legs, shoulders and collar bones to achieve a natural looking dewy highlight.
That's it guys! Those are all of my current favourite products, but both Meg R and I are always trying new things so keep an eye out on Instagram and Snapchat for new finds.
We always love hearing from our followers so pleeeease feel free to send us a message or comment below and let us know what we need to try out next!
Ok, it's honesty hour. I have the biggest sweet tooth in the game, and cannot (for the life of me) control myself around chocolate, or anything sweet for that matter. BUT, we've got some sweet recipes below that help you not give into that craving; you can eat as many as these as you want, guilt free! They all feature bananas, because they are so versatile and help kick your sweet craving!
Who doesn't love to start their morning off with pancakes?! While regular pancakes are full of sugar and fat, these are just as tasty and probably the easiest breakfast you'll ever make.
1 tbsp coconut oil
... Yep, that's it!
Mash the banana in a bowl and then mix in the two eggs until the two ingredients are well-combined. In a medium frying pan, cover with coconut oil and on a low-medium heat, add the banana/egg mixture. Cook for about 8 minutes. Flip once the mixture is cooked together and leave for another 3-5 minutes.
Add cinnamon and honey on top, maple syrup, or leave plain, and viola! Done.
Nobody eats just one cookie, but with these Banana-Oat cookies you can eat a whole batch in one sitting (which I've done tbh).
1 1/2 cup of Oats
1 cup of Chocolate Chips
1 tbsp of Honey
Mash the bananas in a medium-sized mixing bowl, add honey and stir. Mix in the oats until the mixture becomes more thick and batter-like (you can add more or less oats depending on the consistency). Add the choco-chips (as many as you like!). Then separate on a cookie sheet making them about the size of a big spoonful, and bake for 10 minutes on 350 degrees F.
These cookies are amazing for on-the-go mornings or late night, guilt-free snacks! Feel free to play around with the ingredients; we like adding cinnamon, or shredded coconut! Go nuts.
Banana Ice Cream
You've probably seen this before, but it's the ultimate ice cream lovers DREAM. It totally has the same consistency as regular ice cream, and you can make it any flavour you like!
Blender (Ok, not an ingredient, but you know what I mean)
Cut your 'nanas into 1 inch pieces, store in a freezer-safe container and freeze until... well, frozen. Then, add the banana pieces into the blender and blend until you get a creamy consistency. For different flavours, like chocolate, add cocoa powder in the blender. For strawberry flavoured, add 1 cup of strawberries and 1 tbsp of honey into the blender. Easiest. Dessert. Ever
If you try any of these recipes, be sure to tell us on our social media pages! We'd love to see what how you make these your own :) Now indulge
This blog post is for all of our sun-seeker, beach bum followers who love a tan as much as we do. What better way to spend an afternoon than laying in the sand, basking in the warm rays? We definitely dig this, but we don't dig the side effects of sun exposure. It's important to wear sun protection and stay hydrated when tanning under the sun, but we thought we would try a new, natural way all together to get a tan. Melissa introduced us to OrganicTan, a spray tan service and line of self-tanners that have a unique blend of organic ingredients. They are completely chemical free, cruelty free and vegan (we love that). OrganicTan product is meant to mimic the way the sun tans your skin and fades very naturally. So essentially, the way you tan outside will typically be the way your spray tan will pick up on your skin. This means no orange! Just a beautiful, even, golden tan in 15 minutes.
Being new to spray tanning, but experienced with self-tanners, I knew that I wanted a deep-dark tropical tan, but wasn't sure what to expect. Melissa walked me through each product that she was applying, the positions to be sprayed in, and the aftercare steps for keeping my tan looking its best!
Q: When should you get a spray tan?
A: I always recommends tanning 1-2 days before an event. You should ideally exfoliate 6-8 hours before your spray tan. The reason being, if you exfoliate too close to your spray tan session, your pores may still be open and enlarged and the solution can seep in and give you the "black dot" appearance (similar to black heads).
Q: How long can an OrganicTan spray tan last?
A: How long the spray tan lasts will vary from person to person. For someone who does hot yoga or swims daily, the spray tan will last a shorter period than normal. The normal time frame is 7-10 days if you are properly caring for the tan. Many clients say that their tan has lasted upwards of 14 days. This is of course, when pairing the spray tan with our SunnaTan moisturizing lotion.
Q: Is it necessary to use SunnaTan products?
A: Although I recommend using our moisturizer, we do not frown upon clients using whatever they feel comfortable with. Unfortunately, if your tan fades a bit quicker than the 7-10 days, it is likely that the moisturizer you are using to keep your tan looking fresh, may contain oils that will remove the spray tan more quickly. SunnaTan Body Lotion is water-based!
Q: How can we keep our tan looking fresh all year long?
A: I recommend to our more frequent tanners that they purchase our self-tanning products, such as SunnaTan colour me dark tan extender, to save on costs and space out their spray tan sessions!
We love the fact that OrganicTan does not shy away from their ingredient list for any of their products. The formula does not have the dreaded 'fake tan smell' and it doesn't block pores or make you break out. Many of the ingredients actually help improve your skin. The spray tan formula includes natural ingredients (like green tea) to help tighten the skin and make the appearance of cellulite less noticeable. Other methods of tanning such as tanning beds and chemically-infused self-tanners, will progress the signs of aging significantly, and may harm your skin permanently.
"...take a vitamin D supplement and grab a self-tanner and your skin will thank you for it!"
