Layering Chains

I know that it isn't hot off the press, but we both love this trend and it does not seem to be going anywhere any time soon. With endless designs of chokers, medallion and name necklaces, body chains, lariat necklaces...the options available are endless which makes it super easy to personalize your own signature look.

If you haven't tried layering chains before, give it a go because just a few key pieces can amp up the most simple outfit. Start by going through your jewelry box to see if you already have any pieces that you can use. An old necklace can be revitalized by removing any pendants or charms that may be out of style, you can also have a jeweler adjust the length if needed. Even a plain chain will add depth to the layers and maybe some sentimental value to your new look!

Okay so this is probably going to be the best tip I can give you when shopping for your new pieces. Ready? Whether you are all about the gold or dig bright silver like me, always buy the real stuff! Plated jewelry will often tarnish, despite if it is nickle-free, blah blah blah...whatever the salesperson might say. Invest in 14k gold or 925 sterling silver so you can wear your chains forever and wherever! Have you seen how cute they look with a bather? You don't want your ultra cool new choker turning your neck green after a dip in the ocean, trust me from experience. Where can you find these mermaid worthy goodies? I listed all of my fave online shops for you babes x Keep scrolling!

HOW TO LAYER
I know it sounds pretty simple, but there is an art to it. If you just throw on a bunch of necklaces, you will probably result with some major gypsy vibes and a load of tangled chains that will surely turn you away from this look. Try to have a variety of lengths and weights. A choker and a couple of 14-18" pieces are a good start for everyday wear, such as a basic tee and jeans. If you are going to be rocking deep v's, plunging necklines or planning to wear them with a bather, go for longer pieces (20-24") and even body chains!

Right now my little collection has grown to about ten different length and style chains. I mix and match all of them depending on my outfit or the look I want to create. I feel like personally, I gravitate to dainty, silver pieces and will often wear several layers. You can also create a more subtle look, just like the photo above (bottom right), Meg R rocks two simple gold chains with her white tee. This trend can be completely tailored to suit your everyday style and budget! As promised, below are my current favourite online shops to find good quality and stylish designs.

10/25/2016

Hey peeps, Halloween weekend is practically here....WHERE did October go!? If you don't have time to think of/make/shop for a good costume, we've curated our favourite tutorials for last minute, DIY costumes from our go-to bloggers and YouTubers. We've got costumes that are clever, cute, funny, relevant, or whatever you like to go for on Halloween. We hope this helps!

FOR YOU:

For the ~Fashun Girl~... Danielle from We Wore What has three great ideas for all my stylish ladies. The "Yeezy Season Boo" is our top pick (and you can probably get all you need for this costume at Zara, lol). Check it out here:

Chanel from Scream Queens is a great last minute costume if you have a lot of pink in your wardrobe. We love this tutorial by YouTuber Freddy My Love: the make up is on point and she shows you three different Chanel outfits! Watch it here:

FOR YOU + THE SQUAD:

AndreasChoice is the DIY queen so she obvs had some great ideas in her DIY halloween costume video (our personal fave is the snapchat filter...so easy!).
LC also always has really cute Halloween inspo, and we loved her costume this year: circus performers! This tutorial may not be "last minute friendly", but the concept is great and who doesn't love lots and lots of tulle?!?! Plus there's endless options as to what counts as a circus performer, so #getweird. Read all about it here:

FOR YOU + BAE:

Tess Christine and her beau have THE cutest, last minute, couple costumes... we had to share! They're a nice change-up from your typical Sandy and Danny combo! Check it out here:
Pinterest is also another place to find some creative ideas for couple costumes. We've seen Popeye and Olive Pyl, Firefighter and Dalmatian, Johnny and June, Bill Nye and Miss Frizzle (how clever!?!?!) and the list goes one. We thought Darla and Alfalfa were a cute costume that's easy to put together, and who doesn't love the Little Rascals!? Jackie O and JFK are also a great choice. Check them out here:

Back to Basics

Okay, flat out, we usually strive to AVOID being Basic. We love to follow trends and pay respect to classic style, while adding our own twist. To makes things easy on us and our wallets, we tend to keep a neutral wardrobe with tons of -you guessed it- basics! Black, White, Nude, Repeat...familiar with that mantra? We pretty much live by it. Throw in some denim and leather and we are happy campers.

Recently, we had the opportunity to visit Basic B World HQ and play dress up with the lovely ladies behind it all. We wanted to to see just how versatile the collection was, so we chose our favourite everyday go-to items, and paired them with Basic B's staple pieces . We arrived armed with lace bralettes, vintage Levi denim, skirts, slips, and shoes from lace-up heels to thigh high boots.

It didn't take long for us to see just how easy it was to incorporate Basic B items into our wardrobes. Everything was easy to dress up or down, depending on the look we were going for. One of our favorites was the CINDY tee for that exact reason. Meg R paired the white with her light-wash Levi's for an easy, stylish everyday look; while Meg O chose to go for a sleek black on black with a circle skirt and heels for an evening look.

Overall, we loved Basic B's key pieces for their simplicity and versatility to style with ease.

Staple Pieces to Wear Into Fall

Keep those spring/summer staples goin' for fall! Here are some of our favourites:

The Long Trench.

Picture
As the cooler weather approaches, these light weight jackets will make great transition pieces before we have to switch to our heavy winter coats. For a casual look, wear it over a vintage band tee and high-waisted Mom jeans, or style it with your favourite skinny jeans and strappy heels.
Our Muses: Selena Gomez, Hailey Baldwin and Gigi Hadid.

The Bomber.

The bomber jacket has been so big this season, let's keep it around for a bit longer. You guys know we love our bomber jackets! Pair over a hoodie and sweats for a killer atheleisure get up.
Our Muses: KenGi, Gisele, Lily Aldridge

White Sneakers.

You cannot go wrong with a pair of classic white sneakers. Adidas Superstars, Keds, Nike Air... you name it: they work perfectly with darker colours coming out for fall. My favourite combo is ripped black skinny jeans and my Stan Smith sneakers!
Our Muses: Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner

Tank Tops.

Picture
90's-style layering is making a comeback this Fall, so don't put away your slinky camo tanks just yet! We love the idea of layering textures, like a silk tank top on top of your favourite white tee. You can also switch it up and pair a vintage tee with a contrasting slip dress! Tuck it, tie it, or layer it: the options are endless. Tank tops are definitely a staple this fall!

Chunky Watches.

Luxury Wood Watch
Don't put away your big statement watches just yet, they are still wearable into the fall - sometimes welike to switch to my menswear-inspired Daniel Wellington watch for a sleeker look. BUT: we've recently been into wooden watches! JORD is a go-to brand for affordable timepieces with a huge variety of combinations.Personally, we love this beachy looking Maple with silver finishings, but no matter what your taste or colour palette, JORD has a watch that will accent it seamlessly. They have dark, deep tones or light shades that can be paired with metallic accents like rose gold, gold, and silver; or navy, black, red, white coloured faces. There are a variety of sizes if you like more of a statement piece, or smaller faces for the perfect, everyday-watch. Wooden watches can add character to your arm party, by contrasting luxe bracelets or bangles with an organic feel. This watch also goes with our boho style (which we love), and compliments any silver or gold jewellery. We're crushing on the rustic look they give our outfits for the Fall and will definitely be a staple accessory this season!

JORD watches are also great quality - despite being made of wood they are lightweight and hug your wrist nicely. We were concerned that our watches would be heavy and clunky, but they're easily wearable and definitely get The Meg Life stamp of approval. PLUS: Enter to win your own wooden JORD watch here!

Florals.

Not just regular floral prints: micro floral prints on dresses with a looser silhouette are going to be big this Spring. Perfect to pair with booties or gladiator sandals.  Try Free People, TULAROSA, or Privacy Please.

The Bomber Jacket.

A staple for your Spring wardrobe this season. It's a great piece for giving your outfit a sophisticated, luxe-vibe without even trying. Pair with jean shorts, over a dress, or even with leggings and runners!

Vintage Tees.

Let it be known that there is a difference between a graphic tee and a vintage tee. This Spring, try a loose fitting vintage tee to create a laid back vibe to your outfit. It's a perfect way to look stylish and put together with minimal effort (we're really keen on the whole "no effort" thing). Mate the Label has the PERFECT vintage looking t-shirt for any occasion - we can't get enough of them!

5 Beauty Tips to Feel Your Best

12/29/2015

We can all fall victim to our busy lives, and forget to pamper ourselves with the little things. Lucky for you, we've nailed down our top five 'little things' that make the biggest difference for us! Follow our top five tips to maintain you, and we promise you will look fresh and natural. Most importantly, you will feel your best!
1. Brows
Whether you prefer them full and natural or crisp and polished, keep on top of them! Your brows frame your face, keep them well groomed and you will look awake and put together straight out of bed!

TIP: For easy maintenance, we love brow tinting! You'll save time by never having to fill in your brows. Hit them with some colourless brow gel and your good to go!

2. Skin
When our skin is dry or blemished, it can totally make us shy away and not feel our best. Keep your skin glowing and clear! Find yourself a facial skin routine that works for you. Make sure you always take off your makeup before bed and exfoliate at least once a week!
3. Your Smile
Feel confident flashing your pearly whites! We love to use natural products like coconut oil to keep our lips soft and teeth their whitest. Check out our #flashblog on easy whitening tips, and our fave products listed below!

4. Agua por favor
No time to spend on pampering yourself every day? Keep hydrated. This is the cheapest beauty tip out there! It's recommended to drink at least 2 litres of water a day. This will not only help  keep your skin clear and body energized but also with digestion, fighting fatigue and avoiding mid-day headaches.
Picture
5. Thirty Minutes
Squeeze in 30 mins of exercise a day. We can't all be Victoria's Secret models but 30 mins a day might make you feel like one! Throw on some cute kicks and go for a run to explore a new part of town, YouTube a yoga flow or just go up and down the stairs! Anything to get that heart rate up. Don't forget to stretch it out afterwards. xo
